Committed To Debit Card Fraud Protection
We employ a 24/7 debit card fraud monitoring service to flag suspicious activity or potential fraud, contacting our customers to alert them and confirm they were not the source of the odd transaction. Our service monitors card transactions for purchases outside of normal usage patterns, time frames or geographic locations, as well as purchases resembling current or ongoing fraud trends we’re aware of. In the event we find a suspicious transaction, our debit card processing company may contact you on behalf of the bank to verify card activity. If you recognize the purchase, you can continue using your card as normal. If you don’t recognize it, we’ll walk you through our debit card fraud protection process.
Debit Card Fraud Detected? Here’s What To Expect.
As soon as we detect debit card fraud, we freeze your account until we can confirm with you whether or not you made the purchase in question. The fraud monitoring service will place a restriction on the card and attempt to contact you as soon as possible. Currently, this service will only contact you by phone call. These calls are placed between 8 am and 9 pm, and you will be contacted by a live analyst in Valparaiso, IN, not an automated voice message. If these fraud notification processes change in the future, we will give you advance notice.
The fraud service analyst will ask for you by name, identify your card by the last four digits of the card number and identify themselves as calling “on behalf of Rivers Edge Bank card services.” They will provide details about the transaction(s) and ask if you authorized them. When fraud is confirmed, the freeze will remain in place and the representative will ask you to contact Rivers Edge Bank during regular business hours to have your card replaced. If the activity is valid, the card will be reopened, and no further verification or action will be required.
How To Protect Yourself From Debit Card Fraud
To protect yourself from debit card fraud, routinely review your account activity online, set up transaction alerts, keep your personal information secure and destroy old debit cards or documents containing private account information. Report any unauthorized activity to your bank immediately. Contact your local Rivers Edge Bank right away or use the Rivers Edge Bank mobile banking app to freeze your card or report it as lost or stolen.
Please note no representative of the bank will ever contact you and ask for your email address, password, card number, Social Security number, birthdate, account number, PIN, expiration date, one-time authentication code from a text message/email or the three-digit security code on the back of your card. Likewise, you will not be asked for answers to security questions if a bank representative has called, emailed or texted you. Contact your local Rivers Edge Bank directly if you receive suspicious requests or messages claiming to be from a bank representative.
