New Debit Card Features

Having your REB debit card at the top of your wallet is easier than ever!  REB debit cards are packed with features that make it more convenient and secure to use for all your card purchases.  Check out some of these features below:

Tap-to-Pay

Your REB debit card will have the Tap-to-Pay feature enabled right away.  This will allow you to make contactless payments at merchants, where accepted.  This is beneficial for many reasons:

  • Speed and Convenience:  Transactions are faster compared to those using swiping or inserting our chip card.  This particularly helpful when using your card where speed is essential like fast food restaurants and retail stores.
  • Ease of Use: Simply tapping your card at the payment terminal is straightforward and about as user friendly as it gets!  Many times a PIN is not required on small transactions making the transaction as seamless and simple as possible.
  • Hygiene and Safety - Contactless payments significantly reduces the need to touch machines which helps reduce the spread of germs and viruses.  Plus you can make cash a thing of the past and not have to handle dirty, grimy dollar bills anymore.
  • Enhanced Security - Tap-to-pay transactions use secure encryption technology.  They generate a unique transaction code for each purchase, making it difficult for fraudsters to clone the card or intercept information.
  • Reduced Wear and Tear - Because there is no need to insert the card into a terminal, the physical wear and tear on the card's chip and magnetic strip are minimized.  This can help maximize the lifespan of your card.

Debit Card Controls

You will be able to control your debit card through your mobile banking app.  This will increase convenience, security, and financial management capabilities.  With features like instant card lock/unlock, transaction alerts, and temporary card limit adjustments make your debit card experience customizable to what works best for you.  For more information, check out the Debit Card Controls on the Mobile Banking page

Instant Issue Debit Cards

How We Protect You from Debit Card Fraud

Your debit card activity is reviewed by our 24/7 fraud monitoring service. If one or more transactions are flagged for suspected fraud, you will be contacted to review them. To protect your account from additional fraud, a restriction will be placed on your debit card until you can be reached.

What We Monitor

Card transactions are monitored for purchases outside of normal usage patterns, purchases taking place outside normal time frames or geographic locations, and purchases resembling current or ongoing fraud trends. Our debit card processing company may contact you on behalf of the bank to verify card activity.

How We Contact You

The fraud monitoring service will place a restriction on the card and attempt to contact you as soon as possible if fraud is suspected. Currently, this service will only contact you by phone call. These calls are placed between 8 am and 9 pm, and you will be contacted by a live analyst in Valparaiso, IN, not an automated process. You will receive advanced notice if the fraud notification process changes in the future.

No representative of the bank will ever contact you and ask for your email address, password, card number, social security number, birthdate, account number, PIN, expiration date, one-time authentication code from a text message/email, or the three-digit security code on the back of your card. Likewise, you will not be asked for answers to security questions if a bank representative has called, emailed, or texted you.

The fraud service analyst will ask for you by name, identify your card by the last four digits of the card number, and identify themselves as calling “on behalf of Rivers Edge Bank card services.”  They will provide details about transactions and ask if you authorized them. When fraud is confirmed, the representative will ask you to visit or contact the bank during customer service hours to have your card replaced and account adjusted if necessary. If the activity is valid, the card will be re-opened, and no further verification or action will be required.

How You Can Protect Your Account

  • Make sure we have your current phone number and address.
  • If you will be using your debit card out of the area, let us know in advance.
  • Routinely review your account activity online.
  • Fraudsters can fake or “spoof” caller ID. Do not automatically trust a call based on the caller ID.
  • If you notice unauthorized transactions of any amount, contact the bank. If it is outside of customer service hours, call to report the card lost or stolen and follow up with the bank when possible.
  • When at the ATM, look out for suspicious modifications or additions to the device, such as a removable, loose-fitting overlay on the card slot. Regardless of what ATM you use or whether there is anyone else waiting to use the ATM behind you, use one hand to cover the other as you key in your PIN.
  • If you receive a suspicious call not closely following the protocol described above, hang up, check your account online and contact the bank. After hours, call to report your card lost or stolen to have your debit card turned off until you can review the activity with the bank.
  • Do not provide access to your online banking to anyone. Passwords and the one-time authentication codes sent to your phone or email address should never be shared. If you suspect these credentials have been compromised, change your password, and call the bank during business hours.

Avoid ATM Fees!

Rivers Edge Bank customers can enjoy ATM access with no surcharge fees using any of our Rivers Edge Bank ATMs.  You can also grab some extra cash when checking out at a merchant that allows cash back on PIN-based transactions.

Your New Card Has Added Security Benefits

Your Rivers Edge Bank debit card includes an EMV® chip for enhanced security. For chip-enabled business and ATM terminals, you’ll need to insert your card — chip first. Your card will also have a magnetic strip on the back for use at terminals that don’t yet accept chip cards.

The chip within the card stores account information more securely, and the technology itself provides protection against fraudsters creating a replica of your card. The biggest benefit of switching to chip cards is the reduction in card fraud resulting from counterfeit, lost and stolen cards.
